The Armonk Fire Department was dispatched to the area of the bus garage on MacDonald Avenue Friday evening at about 8 p.m.

The first unit arrived on the scene immediately and confirmed two small school buses fully involved with multiple cars parked nearby, the Armonk Fire Department said.

Crews from the Armonk Fire Department responded and started to extinguish the fire within approximately 10 minutes of dispatch. Upon arrival of additional units, five buses were on fire due to the proximity of the vehicles creating an environment for a fire to easily spread.

The buses, which all had full gas tanks and magnesium engine blocks created additional difficulties and gas from the fuel tanks, flowed into the parking lot, Armonk FD said, adding that foam was used to help extinguish the fire.

Approximately four buses in the row were able to be saved.

Westchester County HAZMAT team responded to assist with the fluid spills.

Westchester County Cause and Origin determined that the cause was accidental.
